Vital Care Assistant Role Overview

At Verve Senior Living, we are committed to delivering exceptional care and support to our residents. As a Vital Care Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of our residents. This position requires a compassionate and skilled individual who can provide high-quality care and support to our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and adhere to continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Assess the needs of individual residents and organize a plan of care to promote maximum resident independence.
  • Participate in pre-move-in and ongoing assessments on the health and wellness needs of individual residents and make recommendations regarding an individual's suitability for residence and their needs.
  • Ensure resident files are established with proper documentation and safe practices related to medication administration processes.
  • Update residents' plans of care every 6 months or as required.
  • Carry out planned assignments as designated by the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor or delegate for effective resident care.
  • Supervise care given by attendants or designated staff in accordance with resident care plans and provide job guidance to general duty attendants.
  • Distribute medications and provide treatments to residents in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Answer emergency calls from residents, providing assistance where possible, and contacting professional help and/or family when necessary.
  • Provide direct resident care in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with infection control protocols as directed, e.g., outbreak management.
  • Act as a leader and help develop employees to ensure an adequate level of service and job standards are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed, completing all required reports.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and safe environment for residents and personnel, recognizing safety hazards and taking appropriate action.
  • Assist with safekeeping of all medication and nursing solutions in the residence.
  • Report all incidents and changes in resident status to the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor and subsequent shift, completing shift reports.
  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of a plan of care for residents that supports independence.
  • Keep the Health and Wellness Manager informed of staff member performance.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating the outcome of specific interventions regularly, offering information or suggestions for improvement.
  • Provide ongoing support to coworkers, acting as an advocate for residents and families to ensure residents' rights are protected.
  • Utilize equipment and supplies effectively and in accordance with policies and procedures, manufacturer's instructions, and health and safety regulations.
  • Serve beverages and resident meals in the dining room as requested.
  • Assist with other duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the residence, including housekeeping and laundry duties, maintaining adequate stock of supplies as required.
  • Maintain effective communication, both written and verbal, with coworkers, using the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff, and good interpersonal relations with residents, families, physicians, and other departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor or designate.
  • Comply with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Complete all required mandatory training and education.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System, recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
