Job Summary:

The York Region District School Board is seeking a skilled Braillist to join our team. As a Braillist, you will be responsible for transcribing and adapting educational materials into braille, large print, and digital formats for students with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe and adapt curriculum materials into braille, large print, and digital formats
  • Set up and proofread braille formatting of materials
  • Transcribe classroom teacher-generated materials into braille and large print formats
  • Assist students with personal and medical care, including administration of medication and mobility assistance
  • Reinforce braille reading and writing skills taught to students
  • Assist in the preparation of learning materials for students using braille, large print, digital, and auditory formats
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to the development and review of student Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Work collaboratively with the Teacher of the Visually Impaired and classroom teachers to ensure student success
  • Maintain confidentiality of personal information and adhere to Board policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with a two-year post-secondary certificate in Literary Braille Transcription
  • Minimum one year of related experience
