Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Braillist to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As a Braillist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that students with visual impairments have access to educational materials in a format that is accessible to them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit scanned material and convert it into braille, large print, and auditory formats.
  • Set up appropriate braille formatting of material and proof-read braille output.
  • Transcribe classroom curriculum materials into Braille, large print, and auditory formats for students.
  • Assist students with personal and medical care in accordance with Board Policy and Procedure #662.0.
  • Reinforce braille reading and writing skills taught to students by the Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
  • Participate in meetings, including the development and review of progress on the student's Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.).
  • Work as an active member of the school team to ensure the safety and success of all students.
Requirements
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with a two-year post-secondary certificate in Literary Braille Transcription.
  • Minimum one year related experience.
