Project Controller Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Controller to lead the cost control and operational finance function on large projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Finance, Operations, and Executive teams to ensure accurate project accounting and financial management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert project accounting guidance and support to project teams.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting to ensure accurate and timely information.
  • Review and understand complex contracts and apply accounting principles to ensure compliance.
  • Identify and report project variances to management, recommending corrective actions.
  • Facilitate cost review meetings with project teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and track change orders and claims logs.
  • Monitor project accounting systems to ensure proper reporting, security, and control.
  • Utilize WBS to provide forecasting and earned value analysis.
  • Support project directors and managers in project financial management and divisional reporting.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and project delivery functions to understand project scope and cost projections.
  • Track labor productivity and provide commodity reporting.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Strong project accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years leading project accounting for construction projects.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and ability to learn specialized financial/project software packages.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards considered an asset.
  • Confident communicator with ability to articulate different points of view.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Collaborative team player with strong work ethic and organizational skills.
