Project Controller Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Controller to lead the cost control and operational finance function on large projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Finance, Operations, and Executive teams to ensure accurate project accounting and financial management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert project accounting and percentage of completion guidance.
  • Manage accounting for large construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, change management, reporting, and analysis.
  • Review and understand detailed contracts and apply terms to accounting for unique projects.
  • Oversee project variances and recommend actions while maintaining cash flow reporting.
  • Facilitate cost review meetings with different departments to prepare monthly reporting packages.
  • Maintain and track change orders and claims log.
  • Monitor project accounting systems for proper reporting, security, and control.
  • Utilize WBS with a crew-based approach to provide forecasting and earned value/CPI-based analysis.
  • Support Project Director/Project Manager in project financial management and divisional reporting.
  • Work with subcontractors, including intercompany and third-party providers.
  • Operate in a multifunctional environment, collaborating with project delivery functions to understand, analyze, and document project scope and cost projections.
  • Track labor productivity and provide commodity reporting.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline (Finance or Accounting).
  • Strong project accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience leading project accounting for construction projects.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and aptitude for learning specialized financial/project software packages.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing JD Edwards considered an asset.
  • Confident communicator at all levels, with the ability to articulate different points of view.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic and highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Level-headed, with the ability to deal with challenging, high-stress situations.
  • Ability and interest in working at project job offices located at or near the construction site.
