The Executive Director, Finance will be responsible for overseeing the management and safeguarding of our financial assets and accounting processes, including the development and implementation of financial systems, internal controls, and policies. This role reports to the Senior Vice President & CFO and leads a team of 5 finance staff members, responsible for engagement, training, and performance.

  • As a key member of the Foundation's management team, the Executive Director, Finance will work closely with other leaders to provide timely and accurate financial reporting and support on strategic projects.
  • Lead the daily accounting and close processes, ensuring the accuracy of all accounting records, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual management, Finance & Audit, Board, and external reports.
  • Responsible for our financial information systems and data, continuously developing, assessing, and innovating our technology and processes to support financial planning, control, and management reporting requirements.
  • Lead the budgeting planning and forecasting processes, managing the preparation of key performance metrics and variance reporting.
  • Responsible for managing our fund accounting processes, ensuring donated funds are stewarded and disbursed according to designated intent.
  • Manage banking relationships and cash management, including cash flow analysis and recommendations for short-term investments of cash balances.
  • Account for investment transactions/income and oversee investment dashboard reports for the Investment Committee.
  • Key contact for accounting-related issues with partner agencies, external contractors, and suppliers, and lead liaison for bank, audit, insurance, and CRA relationships.
  • Advise on Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations, the BC Societies Act, and CRA regulations relating to registered charities and personal income tax issues regarding contributions.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit, liaising with auditors and preparing annual financial statements.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education and degree in finance or accounting, with a CPA designation and a minimum of 5 years' experience in senior finance management.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment and/or with fund accounting.
  • Experience in accounting for diversified investment funds and/or treasury management.
