About the Role

The Educational Developer - Indigenous Pedagogy is a key member of the Educational Development Team at Capilano University. This role plays a vital part in providing guidance to faculty on incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and being into teaching practices, enhancing learning experiences across various modalities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop effective strategies for integrating anticolonial and Indigenous perspectives into curriculum design;
  • Design and deliver workshops and consultations to enhance teaching and learning practices with a focus on Indigenous knowledge, history, and cultural practices;
  • Consult with faculty on specific course-related needs, including instructional resource development and assessment strategies, while ensuring alignment with Indigenous protocols;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Elders and knowledge holders to inform teaching practices and create welcoming environments that respect community protocols;
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, university-wide committees, and initiatives to contribute to educational development and the broader community.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Education or a related field; applicants with equivalent education, scholarship, lived experience, and community engagement are also invited to apply;Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous or having Indigenous ancestry may be given priority in the recruitment process, encouraged to self-identify in their cover letter, and describe how their lived experience informs their scholarship and community work.
    • This position entails delivering Indigenous content, and as such, applicants who can demonstrate their understanding of Indigenous administrative structures and processes will be preferred.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report and ability to incorporate related issues into activities and initiatives;
  • Knowledge of current research in teaching and learning, best practices, and standards of teaching excellence, with expertise in Indigenous pedagogies;
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate projects, communicate effectively with diverse groups, and utilize technology to achieve learning goals;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and demonstrated organizational and self-management skills.

Estimated Salary

$78,872 annually, depending on relevant education and experience, with a salary range of $71,846 to $115,129.
