Project Manager Biologist

Job Summary:
Pinchin Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager (Biologist/Ecologist) to join our growing Environmental Science team in Northern Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and directing technical work, preparing proposals, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring high-quality report delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, designing, and implementation of biological field studies and technical reports.
- Manage field staff, train new or junior staff, and oversee data collection.
- Coordinate background searches and reviews of available sources, including aerial photographs, natural heritage features, wildlife atlases, site plans, and other supporting documents.
- Lead or perform biological field investigations, including botanical inventories, Ecological Land Classification, plant and wildlife surveys, targeted Species at Risk surveys, and wetland delineations.
- Review or prepare high-quality scientific and technical letters and reports.
- Coordinate field and office tasks requiring scientific research, field studies, data recording, entry, and management, analysis, and reporting.
- Consult and liaise with regulatory agencies for background information, review of terms of references, review or staking of environmental studies/features, and response to agency review comments.
- Oversee the acquisition of environmental permits/approvals and development of protection and mitigation measures according to environmental legislation, policies, and guidelines.
- Coordinate site inspections and monitoring of environmental features, Species at Risk, and habitats, and/or erosion and sediment control measures.
- Write proposals, schedule fieldwork, coach junior staff, and deliver consistent service to existing and new clients.
- Liaise with other project managers and technical specialists, including environmental scientists, engineers, GIS/CAD technologists, and other disciplines.
Requirements:
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or related field.
- At least 4-7 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting and/or agency work, with a minimum 1-2 years of project management and coordination experience in consulting considered an asset.
- Applied experience and skills in the identification of Ontario flora and fauna, identification of Species at Risk and habitats, and delineation of habitat types.
- Certification in Ecological Land Classification, Certification in the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, ISA certified Arborist, and Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control are considered assets.
- Familiarity with environmental management, planning, and permitting processes and direct experience working with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and approvals.
- Practical knowledge of environmental legislation and policies, including the Provincial Policy Statement, Conservation Authorities Act, Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Fisheries Act, and Invasive Species Act.
- Highly organized with the ability to coordinate multiple projects within time constraints and budget limitations.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
