Position Overview

We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic reporter to cover government and fiscal policy in Ottawa for the Report on Business. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of economics, a keen eye for policy, and the ability to reveal how business constituencies interact with the federal government and vice versa. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team of reporters who cover economics and business, working out of The Globe's Ottawa bureau.

Responsibilities

  • Cover breaking and live economic and fiscal policy news from Ottawa.
  • Pitch fresh, compelling story ideas regularly.
  • Develop and maintain sources in government and business.
  • Write clearly and concisely on deadline.
  • Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich The Globe's coverage.

Qualifications

  • At least five years' experience as a reporter in a daily news organization.
  • Solid news judgment.
  • Ability to translate fiscal and economic policy into engaging prose for The Globe's audience.
  • Familiarity with political reporting and economics.
