About the Role

Sandbox Mutual Insurance is seeking a skilled Insurance Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting department, you will be responsible for evaluating and managing risk for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Evaluation: Review and analyze applications, renewals, and revisions to determine the nature and degree of the risk.
  • Policy Issuance: Determine if risk is acceptable, is acceptable with restrictions, or should be declined based on analysis and evaluation of all information pertinent to the risk.
  • Policy Administration: Determine action required to improve risk and recommend restrictions to coverages or revisions to deductibles or premiums based on analysis of the risk.
  • Policy Pricing: Determine appropriate rates, apply applicable discounts, and surcharges and calculate premiums.
  • Policy Processing: Process new applications, renewals, revisions, cancellations, and quotes.
  • Customer Service: Answer inquiries orally and/or in writing and act as a technical resource to brokers, insureds, and other employees on policy exclusions, wordings, coverages, and premiums.
  • Training and Development: Train and provide guidance to clerical staff.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control checks.
  • System Testing: Test the accuracy of information systems including updates to the system.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 education.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Completion of at least one Insurance Institute Course along with a positive commitment towards the completion of the CIP designation, demonstrated by completing two Institute courses per year.
  • Experience: One-year related insurance experience.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead, motivate and train other employees.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Customer Service Skills: Ability to deal effectively with the public and brokers in a courteous and positive manner.
