Mechanical Tooling Technologist

CANDU Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company, and the Canadian Commercial Corporation have signed a contract with Nuclearelectrica S.A. to provide engineering, technology, and procurement of tooling and reactor components in support of the life extension of SNN's Unit 1 CANDU reactor at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.

This role offers the opportunity to work on various major projects for internal and external clients, with a focus on mechanical assembly, testing, and repair of nuclear inspection tooling and shop equipment.

Your Role within the Team:

As a Mechanical Tooling Technologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures and policies.
  • Assembly, repairing, and maintaining of nuclear inspection and mock-up equipment.
  • Participating in equipment testing programs.
  • Preparing route sheets and editing documents.
  • Completing prioritized work requests on time.
  • Becoming a nuclear energy worker (NEW).
  • Being willing to travel to vendor and project sites if required.
  • Maintenance of contaminated nuclear tooling and refurbishment activities.
  • Providing strong interpersonal skills, efficient and effective communication (written and oral), and organization skills.
  • Being a team-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to work well with others and promote a positive work environment.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A diploma of collegiate studies in mechanical technology or relevant technical experience.
  • Working experience between 7 and 9 years in mechanical assembly/testing/repair of nuclear inspection tooling and shop equipment.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Word/Excel/Teams/Visio/SolidWorks skills.
  • Familiarity with nuclear standards an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated manual skills and dexterity.
  • Knowledge of established engineering design principles and methods.
  • Acts with initiative and independence under limited direction.
  • A working knowledge of industrial shop practices.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience an asset.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics, Swagelok training an asset.
