We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Chief Engineer to join our team at the Bentall Centre in Vancouver, BC. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the shift engineers, developing and implementing training programs, and maintaining liaison with departments, tenants, and maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and manage shift engineers in daily building and mechanical rounds, troubleshooting, and unscheduled repairs.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement manpower training programs for departments, maintaining and improving quality, efficiency, and capital upgrades.
- Maintain liaison between departments, tenants, and maintenance as required.
- Inspect equipment to ensure operation within correct parameters.
- Perform preventative maintenance, operation, and servicing of mechanical facilities and the property in accordance with our preventative maintenance program.
- Perform general repairs and maintenance of building interior and exterior as required.
- Monitor and respond to tenant service requests through Angus Anywhere system and perform/coordinate necessary repairs and services as required.
- Monitor tenant construction to ensure base building systems are not altered or damaged and that building codes are followed by contractors working at the property.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, including faucets, flush valves, and related hardware.
- Perform roof maintenance, including inspection and cleaning of roof, drains, and gutters.
- Repair common area equipment, including door hardware, closers, locks, etc.
- Participate in testing of fire and life safety systems, per governing regulations and codes.
- Ensure all regulatory codes and permits from the City of Vancouver and the BC Safety Authority are adhered to and up to date.
- Participate in environmental, health, and safety programs.
- Assist in the purchase of materials and supplies within spending limits in adherence with purchasing procedures and policies.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process for the building and ensure compliance with budgeted costs throughout the year.
- Ensure all required documentation related to preventative, scheduled, and ad hoc maintenance is completed and maintained as per established practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 4th Class Power Engineer.
- Trades background is considered an asset.
- Water treatment experience is considered an asset; training to be provided.
- Minimum 5-7 years experience as a Building Operator in a mix-use high-rise office/retail building.
- Solid understanding of maintenance and operational routines of large mechanical equipment.
- Proven computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Extensive experience with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, ESC, and Delta product or similar.
- Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Building Automation System (BAS).
- Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics.
- Experience with Fire Alarm systems is considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
- Ability to work in a team environment.
