Job Summary

As Assistant Chief Engineer, you will assist the department head in managing the budget, capital expenditures, and preventative maintenance programs. You will be responsible for maintaining the building and grounds, ensuring safety, security, and asset protection. You will also assign, track, and follow up on the status of work assigned to staff and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in effectively planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
  2. Monitor the timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders.
  3. Supervise Engineering and related areas in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
  4. Assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
  5. Ensure regular on-going communication occurs with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
  6. Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
  7. Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments.
Maintaining Property Standards
  1. Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
  2. Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
  1. Help train employees in safety procedures.
  2. Support a departmental orientation program for employees to receive the appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job.
  3. Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
  4. Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.
  5. Participate in the employee performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
