The Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting financial management, preparing financial statements, and formulating internal controls. This role ensures the maintenance of accurate and complete financial transactions and accounting records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventories, and general ledger functions.
  • Assist in month-end closing processes, preparation, and disbursement of monthly program financial reports.
  • Provide program-specific financial information and reports to support program operations and enable proper follow-up.
  • Work closely with the Accounting team for external year-end audit, including preparation of working papers, account reconciliation, lead sheets, and responses to auditors' inquiries.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Assist in implementing and adhering to financial and internal control policies, procedures, and systems to improve overall effectiveness.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the Accounting team, and foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.

Other Duties:

  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and the Controller, and ensure proper tracking systems and filing of financial reports with appropriate agencies.
  • Liaise with service providers, such as banks, insurance brokers, and investment managers.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • CPA designation
  • Five years of working experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience with government contracts and/or Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset
  • A strong team player with strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • High moral and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of self-awareness, personal maturity, and responsibility
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a team
  • Self-motivated, positive, and ability to take initiative
  • Cross-cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals, and activities of the commission
  • Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
