Job Summary

Vernon Paving, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in the Okanagan Valley. As a key member of our grade crew, you will be responsible for maintaining the operation of heavy equipment on a daily basis, ensuring the safe and efficient completion of construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain heavy machinery, including skid-steer loaders, rollers, and graders, to prepare construction sites and roadways.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition and report any defects or malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work schedules and ensure smooth project execution.

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience operating heavy machinery, with a strong understanding of their functions and capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment and adapt to changing priorities or demands.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and operate heavy machinery for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, make minor repairs, or report major malfunctions.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and follow instructions accurately.
