Overview

Westlake Paving & Aggregates, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or apprentice to join our team. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of our heavy equipment and paving machinery. Your expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our equipment fleet.

Apprenticeship Program

Apprentices will be supported in their journey to achieving their trade certification . From mentorship, to opportunities to work on a wide variety of heavy equipment to financial support, Lafarge is committed to developing and investing in our apprentices.

Responsibilities:

Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, paver, grader, roller, loaders, heavy haul truck & trailer units, and other construction machinery.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.

Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems before they escalate.

Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components of heavy equipment.

Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.

Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.

Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.

Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.

Stay updated on the latest advancements in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques.

Qualifications and qualities:

Journeyperson or Red Seal certification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and machinery.

Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.

Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with team members and equipment operators.

Physical stamina to perform tasks that may involve heavy lifting and working in various weather conditions.

Rate of pay:

Journeyperson/Red Seal: $39.20/hour

Apprentice level 4: 95% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate

Apprentice level 3: 90% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate

Apprentice level 2: 85% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate

Apprentice level 1: 80% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate
