Job Summary

The Vice President of Global Taxation will lead the tax function at CAE, overseeing tax planning, compliance, and reporting. This critical role will provide strategic leadership, tax advice, and direction to the executive team and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tax efficient strategies for corporate structure and funding, profit repatriation, and tax credits.
  • Manage international tax interactions, tax treaties, withholding taxes, transfer pricing, and VAT.
  • Provide timely tax advice to the executive team on material tax matters, including corporate initiatives and business development opportunities.
  • Direct tax compliance activities, manage audits, and maintain awareness of tax legislation changes.
  • Oversee tax reporting, establish tax accounting practices, and manage external auditor reviews.
  • Evaluate tax aspects of business acquisitions, disposals, and re-organizations, and develop tax effective transaction plans.
  • Establish SOX compliance best practices, monitor tax practices, and provide direction as required.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including external consultants, tax advisors, and tax authorities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of tax experience, with a reputation as an expert in the industry and a demonstrated track record of success managing the tax function.
  • Significant experience in Canadian and international corporate tax, tax compliance, and tax planning.
  • Experience with tax disputes and litigation, tax planning for funding and structuring of international contracts, and management of internal tax resources.
  • Technical tax experience in areas such as tax treaties, foreign taxation, withholdings, transfer pricing, VAT, and GST.
  • Ability to identify innovative value creation tax opportunities and assess different strategies.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax principles to non-tax people.
  • Unquestioned personal and professional integrity, with a positive attitude and hands-on orientation.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree combined with a professional designation (CPA and/or LLB/JD) and tax specialist courses.
