Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical student to join our Operations Engineering team as a Great Lakes Operations Engineering Intern. The successful candidate will be exposed to a broad cross-section of disciplines within Operations Engineering, including pipelines, processing facilities, caverns, reservoirs, truck and rail loading facilities in the Great Lakes Region.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of processes and overall function of Operations Engineering and processing units;
  • Achieve and complete assigned tasks as outlined at the beginning of the work term, including but not limited to:
    • Participate in developing solutions to technical issues and verifying the implementation of these solutions
    • Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and presentations, as required
    • Facilitate initiatives to drive continuous improvement of our processes
    • Perform calculations, modeling, and data analyses
    • Perform engineering mandates: hydraulic calculations, control valve sizing, instrumentation, process condition validation, etc.
    • Evaluate the performance of process equipment (pumps, exchangers, furnaces, etc.)
    • Assist in the evaluation of the performance of production units
    • Apply engineering theory to determine solutions, considering impacts of risk and safety
    • As-building the P&IDs. Data gathering from the field and DCS/PI
  • Assist with document control. Digitize the documents, project files and upload them to adept.
  • Complete and present an assigned project(s);
  • Attend internal/external meetings; and
  • Assist in various ad hoc requests as required in support of experienced engineers or corporate initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2nd year student enrolled in full-time studies in a post-secondary institution, working towards a bachelor's degree in Engineering – ideally Chemical or Mechanical;
  • Both formal and non-formal co-op students are eligible to apply;
  • Previous work terms are considered an asset;
  • A self-starter who is driven to learn;
  • Ability to synthesize information to get to key aspects and provide supported conclusions/recommendations;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Must have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Familiarity with database programs;
  • Ability to read P&IDs and perform simulation will be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work as a team player;
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and under minimal supervision;
  • Preference will be given to a student who will be returning to university to finish their undergraduate degree following the completion of this work term;
  • Interns must be able and willing to relocate themselves within 100KM of our Sarnia facility for the entire duration of the work term;
  • Interns must be able to commit to a 4, 8 or 12-month work term starting January 6, 2025 to be considered for the program;
  • Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing;
  • The successful candidate must provide satisfactory references and complete a Criminal Background Check;
  • Valid Driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
