Job Title: Deaf/Blind Intervenor

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Deaf/Blind Intervenor to join our team at the Burnaby School District. As a Deaf/Blind Intervenor, you will play a vital role in supporting students who are deaf and blind, providing them with the necessary assistance and communication to participate fully in their educational and social experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist deaf/blind students in accessing information and participating in their educational and social environments.
  • Develop and implement behavior management strategies to support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, as well as physical assistance with mobility and transfers.
  • Implement health care plans, including administering medication and monitoring seizure activity.
  • Collaborate with educational professionals to develop and implement educational support programs tailored to students' individual needs.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, including proficiency in English.
  • Completion of a recognized program in special needs assistance, supplemented by coursework in deaf/blind intervention, or one year of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and ability to adjust to students' signing levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with a range of special needs and manage behavior appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology and safety procedures.
Working Conditions:
