Job Title: Deaf/Blind Intervenor

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Deaf/Blind Intervenor to join our team at School District #41 (Burnaby). As a Deaf/Blind Intervenor, you will play a vital role in supporting students who are deaf and blind, providing them with the necessary assistance to participate fully in their educational and social experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist deaf/blind students in accessing information and participating in their educational and social environments.
  • Develop and implement behavior management strategies to support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of educational support programs designed by professionals, such as speech language pathologists and rehabilitation therapists.
  • Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records of student progress.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, including grammar, spelling, arithmetic, reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Completion of a recognized program in special needs assistance, supplemented by coursework in deaf/blind intervention, or one year of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language, including the ability to adjust to the signing, educational, and communication levels required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a full range of students with special needs.
  • Working knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology related to the work performed.
Working Conditions:
