Job Summary

The College of the North Atlantic is seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join its Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus team. As a key member of the Food Service team, this individual will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals for the cafeteria and special functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals for the cafeteria and special functions
  • Use a variety of cooking equipment and maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment
  • Meet with the supervisor to plan cafeteria specials and maintain inventory
  • Perform lifting and moving of large objects, including bulk food and kitchen equipment
  • Stand for long periods throughout a typical shift and use a variety of kitchen equipment requiring controlled movements

Requirements

  • One year Certificate in Commercial Cooking (or related)
  • Relevant experience in food preparation and service

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of the culinary arts industry, including food preparation, service, safety, and sanitation in a commercial kitchen
  • Effective organizational skills for maintenance of an organized kitchen
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to establish professional working relationships with students and staff

Compensation

CG-25 - $23.31 to $25.68 per hour
