Job Summary:

The City of Courtenay is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Technologist to join our team in the Transportation Division of the Operational Services Department. This is a full-time, union position that requires a strong background in civil engineering and transportation management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and provide technical expertise in traffic and transportation engineering, including road and intersection operational assessments, road safety reviews, and improvements.
  • Oversee the effective delivery of various traffic programs, such as crosswalk and pedestrian upgrades, traffic data collection, and railway crossing safety.
  • Administer assigned capital projects, issue permits and street licenses, and review engineering applications.
  • Coordinate construction and installation work, and respond to day-to-day traffic operation concerns.

Requirements:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Eligible for membership in Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • 3-4 years of experience in civil/municipal engineering, specifically in transportation and traffic management.
  • Experience in GIS, AutoCAD, and related software, as well as survey instruments.
  • Project management and contract administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, terminology, and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of infrastructure operation, maintenance, and construction practices.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
