About the Role
The City of Kingston is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor of Development Approvals to join our Planning Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising the Development Approvals unit and providing technical expertise in the review and coordination of development applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Development Approval planners and provide support to Development Technologists assigned development-related applications received by the City.
- Provide professional planning advice to staff and multiple external parties.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of the development review process.
- Support the Manager, Development Approvals, and act as a key liaison with customers and staff.
- Lead Enforcement staff through grading and planning issues.
- Assist with the coordination and supervision of all development-related planning applications, review, and prepare reports, present, and defend reports with respect to all applicable acts, legislative requirements, by-laws, and policies.
- Technical review coordination for engineering and planning development applications.
- Utilize the Land Management System to facilitate financial fee reconciliations and approval of refunds.
- Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with internal departments, Council, committees, external agencies, and boards, other levels of government, development industry, and community stakeholders.
- Facilitate community efforts relating to planning matters by representing the City at various meetings and hearings, including provision of evidence at hearings.
Qualifications and Competencies
- 4-year degree in Urban Planning.
- 3 years of practical related experience in development planning and technical review.
- Full membership in OPPI/CIP.
