As a Registered Nurse in our Surgical Day Care department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes and a passion for working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care and effective communication.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, and monitor patient responses to these interventions.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, identify potential complications, and develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- ACLS Certification required at time of hire and ongoing.
- PALS Certification preferred at time of hire and ongoing.
- Recent Surgical Day Care nursing experience required.
- Recent PACU nursing experience required.
- Critical Care Nursing course and/or PACU course required.
- Coronary Care 1 and 2 preferred.
- Experience with administering IV drugs below the drip chambers, central lines, Epidural/ PCA pump, ECG machines, invasive pressure monitoring required.
- Experience with phlebotomy, paracentesis, and other ambulatory care procedures.
- Ability to interpret advanced arrhythmias.
- Strong patient assessment skills essential.
- Must possess excellent decision making & critical thinking skills.
- Flexible, good team player with positive attitude.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
- Caring attitude with patients, families and co-workers.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required.
