Job Summary:

This position is located in the DC Department of Human Resources, Office of Employee Relations. The mission of the department is to provide effective and efficient human resources services to support the success of the organization.

The Human Resources Specialist serves as a key member of the employee relations team, responsible for coordinating and implementing programs to promote a positive and inclusive work environment. This includes developing and maintaining policies and procedures, providing guidance to managers and employees on employment-related issues, and conducting training sessions on employee relations topics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing employee relations programs to promote a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Providing guidance to managers and employees on employment-related issues, including performance management, discipline, and grievances
  • Conducting training sessions on employee relations topics, including performance management, diversity and inclusion, and employee engagement
  • Monitoring and evaluating routine operations and special activities for efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Analyzing employment trends and making recommendations for improvements to counteract employee turnover

Qualifications and Education:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, and at least one year of specialized experience in human resources or a related field. The candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Work Conditions and Environment:

The work is performed in an office setting, with occasional travel to other locations as needed.
