Genetic Counsellor

The Cancer Genetics Clinic at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre provides centralized genetic counselling and assessment services to patients across the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Region as part of the Regional Cancer Program.
Key Responsibilities- Provide family risk assessment, diagnosis, management, education, and support to patients and their families.
- Obtain patient histories, review relevant data, and determine the risk of hereditary cancer syndromes and eligibility for genetic testing.
- Develop and maintain the regional cancer genetics care pathway.
- Liaise with the laboratory for specimen collection and coordination.
- Participate in research and supervise student learners and volunteers.
- Master's Degree from an (ABGC) accredited Genetic Counselling Program.
- American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and/or Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling - Conseil Canadien de Conseil Génétique (CBGC - CCCG) certified and/or board eligible.
- Previous experience in a cancer genetics clinic preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the issues surrounding screening for genetic susceptibility to disease.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer software such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and electronic health record systems.
