Genetic Counsellor

Job Summary

The Cancer Genetics Clinic at Hamilton Health Sciences provides centralized genetic counselling and assessment services to patients across the region. As a Genetic Counsellor, you will work with a team of medical oncologists and other healthcare professionals to provide family risk assessment, diagnosis, management, education, and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain patient histories and review relevant data
• Determine the risk of hereditary cancer syndromes and eligibility for genetic testing
• Develop and maintain the regional cancer genetics care pathway
• Liaise with the laboratory for specimen collection and coordination
• Participate in research and supervise student learners and volunteers

Qualifications

• Master's Degree from an accredited Genetic Counselling Program
• ABGC and/or CBGC certified and/or board eligible
• Previous experience in a cancer genetics clinic preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of genetic susceptibility to disease
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Proficiency in MS Office and electronic health record systems
