Recreation Therapist Behavioral Support Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist Behavioral Support to join our team at Owen Hill Community. As a Recreation Therapist Behavioral Support, you will play a critical role in enhancing the lives of our residents by providing recreation therapy activities and developing plans of care to meet their assessed needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide and assess recreation therapy activities, including outings, in accordance with established policy, physician's orders, and resident plan of care.
  • Develop and sustain plans of care to meet residents' assessed needs based on individual strengths, needs, and interests.
  • Communicate and promote activities of the department to residents, team members, families, volunteers, and the community to encourage collaborative participation in programs.
  • Ensure thorough evaluation of assessments, intervention plans, program development, and program delivery to ensure the efficacy of recreation services.
  • Identify department learning needs and make provisions for appropriate education and continuing team member development.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, orientation, development, and performance management of Recreation Department team members.
  • Ongoing professional development in therapeutic recreation and staying current with industry trends.
  • Guide recreation therapy assistants to ensure proper documentation is completed and observe facilitation of activities to ensure appropriate and thorough programming.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of care delivered, including program development and program delivery.
Requirements:
  • University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies, Health Sciences, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
  • Registered Recreation Therapist (R/TRO) or in process of registration with TRO.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with seniors.
  • Qualifications must meet definition under MDS-RAI guidelines.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check.
