AXA XL is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter – Construction and Energy to join our team in Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver. As a key member of our Canadian Construction and Energy underwriting team, you will be responsible for tailoring effective solutions for our current and prospective clients, partnering with dedicated industry experts who have robust construction industry risk management experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and structure tailor-made solutions by considering underwriting guidelines and underwriting policy to win new business and retain existing customers.
- Review submissions, terms and conditions, statement of values, loss history, and catastrophic modeling, and conduct appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account based on company guidelines and underwriting authority granted.
- Coordinate with various business divisions, including actuarial, claims, reinsurance, accounting, marketing, risk engineering, regulatory, and others internally, to support our businesses.
- Determine quote or declination of risk, calculate rates and premium charges using approved rating models, develop and modify policy wording in accordance with delegated underwriting authority, and actively cross-sell afforded products and services.
- Market to producers to secure new and renewal business and initiate opportunities for cross-selling within your unit and across all lines of business in Canada.
- The role may have a responsibility for the development of skills, knowledge, and competencies of less experienced colleagues.
- Work effectively with other members of your team.
- Leadership and involvement in special projects as assigned by management.
- Extensive construction property (builders risk) and operational energy (renewables, power, etc.) property underwriting experience.
- Ability to work independently with the ability to be an open-minded team player with a willingness to actively listen to and comprehend unique circumstances that require practical and unique solutions to complex issues.
- Robust insured and broker interaction with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts in order to effectively promote offered products.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with both internal teams and external brokers.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
- Excellent comprehension and work experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual (English/French) skills are an asset.
- Knowledge of primary casualty, including wrap-ups and excess and umbrella liability, is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree required with advanced education and/or professional designations, including but not limited to FCIP, CRIS, preferred but not required.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 25% travel as necessary) within Canada and the USA.
