The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for three (3) Casual (hourly) Clinical Research Therapist(s). This Fixed Term Casual - Hourly position, with the possibility of extension, is based on the length of grant funding.
As a Clinical Research Therapist, you will report to the Principal Investigator and act as a study therapist for projects involving psychiatric clinical populations and/or drug interventions (cannabinoids, psychedelic compounds) with psychotherapy. You will mainly support a clinical trial exploring the effectiveness of psilocybin for the treatment of alcohol use disorder, with the opportunity to support additional studies.
Key Responsibilities- Provide structured, protocol-based psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
- Facilitate preparatory work with participants to build trust and rapport.
- Educate study participants on the investigational compound, including potential side effects and expectations.
- Support study participants during drug administration sessions.
- Facilitate subsequent therapy sessions at weekly intervals after drug administration.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient clinical care documentation and adhere to study protocol at all times.
- MSc or PhD in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Psychology, or Counselling.
- Full registration by a recognized provincial regulatory body.
- Minimum of 3-5 years working directly with patients in a medical/psychiatric clinic setting; experience with psychiatric clinical populations essential.
- Experience with Motivational Interviewing or Motivational Enhancement Therapy desirable.
- Experience and/or knowledge regarding psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy desirable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
