Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, initiating, and monitoring daily activities designed to further the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children and adolescents on an assigned unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and initiate daily activities to promote the development of children and adolescents, including gathering information from various sources and providing toys and games to patients.
  • Provide education to patients and parents, including developing orientation programs and presenting material and brochures.
  • Liaise with members of the interdisciplinary team, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff, to ensure patient treatment plans are carried out and reinforced during play periods.
  • Observe, record, and report relevant information on patients' behavior, development levels, individual needs, and adjustment to the hospital environment.
  • Chart workload measurement statistics and provide input on departmental and professional charting standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in departmental, hospital, and/or region's educational programs and contribute to the development of operational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, such as Child and Youth Care, Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, or Family Studies.
  • One year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligible for membership with Child Life Council or the Canadian Association of Child Life Leaders.
  • Completion of Child Life Certification.
