Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to join our team at the Department of Biological Sciences. As a key member of our academic programs, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of undergraduate Biology labs, ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory facilities, and providing guidance to staff and faculty members.

Responsibilities:
  1. Facilities Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the undergraduate Biology Teaching Laboratories, Wash Sterilization, and Greenhouse facilities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and University policies.
  2. Staff Management: Manage human resources, including hiring, performance management, and professional development of Laboratory Technicians and Teaching Assistants, in collaboration with faculty members.
  3. Financial Management: Provide input into the development and planning of annual budgets, researching and purchasing supplies and equipment, reconciling, and authorizing purchases of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment.
  4. Teaching Support: Contribute to the development of laboratory teaching materials, such as lab manuals, quizzes, tutorials, and exam supervision, ensuring that exam and course marks are accurately recorded.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in laboratory management, preferably in a university setting.
  • Skills and Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of Biology and general chemistry at the undergraduate level; laboratory experience; experience coordinating lectures/laboratories at the university level; excellent analytical, computer, and communication skills; ability to operate specialized equipment; and WHMIS & Chemical Safety training or be willing to be trained.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, salaried position within the PM 2 -- Hiring Zone: $82,083 - $95,762 -- Broadband Salary Range: $82,083 - $136,802 job category. In addition to competitive salary, we offer an attractive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
