The Rotational Field Service Technician, Power Systems will work on customer sites to safely and effectively diagnose and repair Caterpillar Power Systems in a timely manner while maintaining high standards and ensuring positive customer experiences.

Rotational Position: 14 days on / 14 days off schedule

In a typical day, you will:

  1. Perform all reasonable steps and precautions to ensure Toromont's Health and Safety Guidelines are followed by sub-contractors
  2. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gensets, industrial engines, marine engines, controls, and other auxiliary equipment
  3. Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and mechanical repairs on engines and generators in both the shop and on customer sites
  4. Perform basic troubleshooting for all equipment and provide detailed service reports and recommendations on repairs and upgrades
  5. Use electrical and mechanical testing and calibrating equipment to diagnose and service equipment
  6. Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  7. Submit accurate service reports, time cards, and other required paperwork in a timely manner
  8. Operate and connect load banks in a test environment
  9. Perform engine overhauls
  10. Demonstrate safe and healthy work behaviors and practices at all times in support of Toromont's Health and Safety Policy, Programs, and initiatives

Must-haves for this role:

  1. Post-secondary education in a field related to diesel engines, electro-mechanics, marine engine mechanics, generator mechanics, or equivalent
  2. MaK training/certification
  3. Caterpillar 3600 diesel generator certification (strong asset)
  4. Experience with generators, gensets, diesel engines, marine engines, or related heavy equipment
  5. Experience working on large diesel engines in a marine environment will be considered an asset
  6. Experience working on diesel generators, switchgear, and/or transfer switches will be considered an asset
