Simulation Operations Specialist

Job SummaryThe Simulation Operations Specialist will provide technical, operational, and training support across all Osler sites, aligning with simulation best practice standards in collaboration with the Simulation Operations team, facilitators, and users of simulation.
Main Responsibilities:- Ensure successful operation of simulators, technology, audiovisual equipment, and other related equipment; troubleshooting as needed
- Lead equipment onboarding and installation of new program equipment and software
- Maintain expertise in the use of simulation AV equipment and multimedia software
- Manage preventative maintenance scheduling, implementation, and inventory control, including ordering medical, non-medical, and simulation supplies
- Identify and communicate the need for replacement equipment and parts as needed
- Provide recommendations for annual operations budget and inventory management
- Lead orientation related to simulation equipment, spaces, and software for simulation users and facilitators
- Responsible for set-up and breakdown for simulation activities (including equipment and multimedia needs)
- In collaboration with simulation facilitators, serve as simulator operator during simulation activities, adjusting physiologic parameters and responses as needed for learners
- Facilitate simulation fidelity (i.e., moulage, props, simulator capabilities)
- Work with simulation equipment and technologies, including mannikins, task trainers, computers, LLEAP software, AV
- Troubleshoot high-fidelity and procedural skills equipment; video-debrief process
- Install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support
- Work with the Administrative Assistant to order and replace consumable and defective components
- Maintain the simulation centre as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment
- Conduct and record routine equipment maintenance, including repairs
- Forecast and communicate equipment, hardware, software upgrades, and repairs/replacements
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of simulators, escalating issues related to technology when needed
- Collaborate with manufacturers' service representatives
- Utilize and maintain medical equipment, such as IV pumps, ventilators, anesthesia machines, standard defibrillators, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
- Maintain databases, analyze data, and generate reports related to simulation usage metrics, forecasting maintenance requirements
- Review evaluation data regularly and make recommendations for program quality improvement
- Solicit, record, and analyze simulation facilitator and student feedback following simulation experiences
- Provide timely reports to simulation facilitators following simulation sessions
- Record and track equipment usage, damages, contracts, and warranties
- Regularly review equipment usage data to forecast maintenance requirements
- Provide mentorship for staff, learners, and simulation facilitators on the effective and safe use of simulation equipment and technologies
- Provide feedback on curriculum and scenarios related to simulation technology
- Support scholarship, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the program and organizationally
- Provide input on how simulation information is disseminated
- Collaborate with program staff to identify potential program needs
- Identify and present recommendations related to improvement, innovation, and efficiencies to the simulation steering committee
- Promote occupational safety compliance related to correct ergonomics, labelling of simulated equipment and medications, and other measures as needed
- Maintain professional skills and refine expertise through appropriate professional developmental activities
- Maintain proficiency in current and emerging simulation technologies
- Remain current with national and international advances in simulation
- Commit to engaging in simulation professional development and simulation organizations
- Commit to achieving simulation certification (i.e., CHSOS) or other within 3 years (INACSL) of being hired
We are looking for a candidate with an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate, preferably in information technology, biomedical engineering, or science. One to two years of previous simulation experience is required, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting. Experience or knowledge of working with simulation equipment and technology is also required. Experience or knowledge of computer programming, information technology, biomedical engineering is also required. Experience with AV and simulation software (LLEAP) is an asset. Previous training or knowledge in simulation operations, technologies, and software is preferred. Knowledge of or previous training in medical terminology is preferred.
