Job Title: Secondary Student Summer Employment Program – Early Childhood Education

Seabird Island Band is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Secondary Student Summer Employment Program – Early Childhood Education. This is a unique opportunity to work with children and contribute to their growth and development.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a reliable and responsible individual to assist in the planning and implementation of culturally sensitive activities and experiences for children. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to create a safe and healthy environment for children to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of culturally sensitive activities and experiences for children.
  • Assist in providing a safe and healthy environment for children to learn and grow.
  • Assist in daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and preparation.
  • Follow the center's procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, and illnesses to the Supervisor and record such incidents in the communication book.
  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse and neglect to the Supervisor and/or follow the center's policy for reporting.
  • Assist in field trips and daily events.
Requirements:
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old and have a valid Social Insurance Number.
  • Must have a bank account and a BC Services Card.
  • First Aid, Babysitting, and Food Safe certificates would be an asset.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and effectively interact with children.
  • Will be responsible for child safety and may be required to lift children alone or in pairs.
  • Must be willing and able to swim, hike, play sports, and participate in physical activities.
  • Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to agree and adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions, and language or willingness to learn.
  • Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
