Job Summary

The Structural Engineer II will play a key role in analyzing existing structures and designing new ones, including building structures, water tanks, and towers. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to provide quality control review of engineering services performed by other engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review building structures for compliance with current standards and building codes
  • Design modifications to existing structures
  • Work with designer staff on the development of modification drawings
  • Generate required engineering reports
  • Review Quality Assurance (QA) and final review on structural analysis reports and designs
  • Answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customers
  • Stay up-to-date with new technical methods and developments related to structural engineering
  • Provide assistance on unusual problems
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related field required, Master's degree preferred
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • 2+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Building design experience with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry preferred
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software preferred

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work with functional groups and different levels of employees throughout the organization
  • Proficient with computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, and state building codes
  • Knowledge of CAD software
Work Environment

This is a largely sedentary role, with some filing required. The employee will be required to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 35 pounds. Most work will be performed in a climate-controlled internal office environment under normal office conditions, with less than 5% of work performed externally, on-site, outdoors, with exposure to the elements of nature.
