The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing quality patient-focused nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department. The RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses, and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.
You will provide family-centered nursing care to children along the continuum of care up to age 18. You will assess the nursing needs and provide care to support children and families as they experience illness and the response of treatment. You will develop and implement a nursing plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and the interdisciplinary health care team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing safe and effective nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary health care team to develop and implement a nursing plan of care
- Assessing the nursing needs of patients and families and providing care to support them
- Developing and implementing strategies to promote patient safety and well-being
- Maintaining clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning
- Exemplifying the values of Osler, including Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation, and Collaboration
Requirements:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Advanced clinical skills with recent one year experience in emergency pediatrics required
- Demonstrated competency in arrhythmia interpretation required
- BCLS required
- ACLS/Heart and Stroke certified within six months of hire date required
- Coronary Care I is an asset
- Coronary Care II is an asset
- Trauma Nursing Core Course, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and Emergency Nursing Course (c) is preferred
- Experience/knowledge of paediatric triage system an asset
- Keen interest in caring for children

- Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced environment
- Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care
- Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions
- Excellent physical assessment skills
- Ability to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelines
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation, and Collaboration
- May be required to travel and work between all Osler sites
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record
- Knowledge and understanding of information systems and technology
