Mental Health Nurse Resource

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Nurse Resource to join our team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. As a key member of our interprofessional healthcare team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to complex patient populations in our Adult, Forensic and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality nursing care to patients with complex mental health needs
  • Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Conduct assessments, develop care plans, and provide education to patients and families
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes
  • Develop and maintain relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care transitions
Requirements:
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current certification in BCLS
  • Recent knowledge of forensic mental health nursing in an acute care setting
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code of Canada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act
  • Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have a certification, or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
  • Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation or a similar recovery-based model of care
