Job Title: Mental Health Nurse Resource

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our Mental Health Nursing Resource Team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide quality nursing care to complex patient populations on our Adult, Forensic and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units. As part of our interprofessional healthcare teams, you will practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, our philosophy of patient and family centered care, and the mission, vision, values and policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality nursing care to complex patient populations on our Adult, Forensic and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units.
  • Practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, our philosophy of patient and family centered care, and the mission, vision, values and policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare teams to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.
Requirements:
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in BCLS.
  • Recent knowledge of forensic mental health nursing in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code of Canada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act.
  • Knowledge of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation or a similar recovery based model of care.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have a certification, or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation or a similar recovery based model of care.
