Job Title: Educational Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, promoting their academic and personal growth.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal to provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs. This role involves collaborating with teaching staff and other professionals to develop and implement personalized learning plans, providing academic and behavioral support, and promoting social skills and independence.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one support to students with exceptional needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement individualized learning plans, promoting academic and personal growth.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding.
  • Support students with behavioral challenges, using positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies.
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and special programs, as required.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure seamless support and collaboration.
Requirements:
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged students with special needs.
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
