Job Description

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Educator to join our team in a Catholic school setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a warm and inclusive learning environment that reflects the values of the Catholic faith.
  • Implement the Kindergarten Program by planning and delivering developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that promote the holistic development of children.
  • Work with school resource staff and Board and community resource services to support the needs of diverse learners, including students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Observe, monitor, and assess student development using various documentation methods, including developmental checklists and anecdotal reports.
  • Contribute to the completion of the initial Observation and the Kindergarten Communication of Learning.
  • Organize and supervise field trips, and participate in the preparation and supervision of the classroom and playground areas.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to children with self-care, washroom routines, dressing, lunchtime, and other nutritional activities and needs.
  • Participate in family/educator communications regarding student assessments.
  • Respond to difficult situations and take appropriate action in stressful or emergent situations, according to Board policies and procedures.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other community services providers working with children, as directed by the Principal and/or designate.
  • Provide guidance to families, supply staff, students, and volunteers with respect to program planning, childcare, and community resources.
  • Communicate in a sensitive and courteous manner with students, families, and the general public on pertinent information.
  • Maintain confidentiality, including staff, student, and family information.
  • Maintain appropriate records for students, including health and attendance records.
  • Attend staff meetings, school-level meetings, and professional development activities, as required.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.)
  • Registered member, in good standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Catholic pastoral reference (dated within the last 12 months)
Experience:
  • Minimum three years' experience working as an Early Childhood Educator
  • Experience in planning and implementing developmentally age-appropriate programs
  • Experience in working with various outreach and community development programs is an asset
  • Experience working in a school system is an asset
