About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and empathetic Medical Care Specialist to join our team at The Alex, a beacon of hope for Calgary's most vulnerable citizens. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide full scope medical care to patients with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary care in-person and virtually to patients with diverse backgrounds and challenges.
  • Collaborate with a team of Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Mental Health Clinicians, and Social Workers to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Shadow bill for indirect and direct patient care to optimize reimbursement.
  • Attend clinic and provider rounds to stay updated on best practices and team efforts.
  • Contribute to data collection and entry as directed to support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Complete organization-wide training as required to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Hold membership in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Maintain appropriate medical liability insurance coverage (i.e., CMPA or equivalent).
  • Affiliate with a Primary Care Network (PCN) or be willing to join one.
  • Possess special skill sets such as opiate agonist therapy, transgender medicine, or procedures like IUD insertions, prenatal care, emergency/urgent care, mental health, sports medicine, etc.
  • Demonstrate experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., homeless serving sector, refugee health, remote outreach medicine). Experience with marginalized and underserved populations is an asset.
  • Show passion for advocating for and building relationships with Seniors.
  • Understand the social determinants of health as they pertain to marginalized and underserved populations.
  • Possess EMR experience and the ability to use Netcare.
  • Hold up-to-date CPR training upon starting at The Alex.
  • Obtain a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and a child welfare intervention check.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, which is an asset.

Work Environment and Salary:

This is a locum position offering a competitive salary of approximately $80-$120 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Standard hours are from Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling to accommodate the needs of our patients.
