Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Dietitian Educator to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our renal portfolio, you will provide clinical and educational support to dietitians and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical dietetic resources and education to dietitians and other healthcare professionals on renal nutrition best practices.
- Develop and provide education sessions on renal nutrition topics.
- Review and provide feedback on nutrition-related content for the renal department.
- Support the development and knowledge translation of renal nutrition-specific Clinical Decision Support Tools (CDST).
- Identify and initiate quality improvement activities to support current practice and departmental change.
- Assist Dietitian Practice Leaders in measuring key competencies and performance indicators.
- Participate in skill assessment and development of staff, and propose recommendations or feedback on individual or group education needs.
- Stay up-to-date with recent renal-related nutrition research and support renal dietitians in critically reviewing literature and conducting local research.
- Attend local renal-related dietitian meetings and represent Fraser Health at provincial renal RD meetings.
- Provide patient care in all areas of practice when not providing educator activities, as determined by the Dietitian Practice Leader.
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related discipline from a recognized educational institution.
- Successful completion of an approved dietetic internship program.
- Five years recent related experience in renal-related area of practice, including one year experience in supervisory/leadership role, providing education/training to healthcare professionals.
- Current registration with the College of Dietitians of BC and Restricted Acts A and B.
- Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the etiology of renal disease, renal therapy practice, and relevant metabolic changes.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize nutrition-related concerns for patients/clients with multiple medical conditions.
- Demonstrated skills in food preparation and nutrient composition, medication/nutrient interactions, and relevant metabolic changes.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of the psycho-social economic considerations of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
- Demonstrated counseling skills to effect a change in eating behavior, and ability to establish a person-centered and culturally safe approach to renal nutrition care.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to teach individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others within a multidisciplinary environment.
