We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our data science and engineering efforts, focusing on developing and implementing data-driven solutions to improve our mapping products and services.

This role will involve leading a team of talented data engineers and data scientists, collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into business decisions, and driving the development of sustainable, high-impact projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science and engineering, experience managing engineering teams, and a passion for driving business outcomes through data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of data engineers and data scientists to develop and implement data-driven solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into business decisions
  • Drive the development of sustainable, high-impact projects
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of team members
  • Provide guidance on how to develop and leverage data and analytic frameworks to identify opportunities to improve our routing stack and make more accurate ETA predictions
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, marketers, and operators to translate data insights into decisions and action
  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
  • Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
  • Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly
  • Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science and engineering, such as Python or SQL
  • Familiarity with data processing frameworks and tools like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, and cloud provisioning environments
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams of data scientists, data engineers, and other technical professionals
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance
  • Ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives and priorities
  • Experience launching and monitoring consumer-facing products and iterating through data-driven experimentation and metrics analysis
  • Experience organizing on-calls to detect and react to issues in production quickly
  • Prior experience in the mapping domain will be a plus

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
