Executive Municipal Lawyer

We are seeking an experienced Municipal Lawyer to join our team in Essex, Ontario. As a key member of our Legal Services Division, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality legal services to the Town, ensuring compliance with municipal by-laws, and providing expert advice to Council and Administration.

• Legal Services: Provide professional legal services to the Town, including civil litigation, By-Law enforcement, municipal and administrative law, land use planning, and development.
• Licensing and Enforcement: Oversee the Town's licensing programs, including business licenses, lottery licenses, taxi and ride-share services, and manage By-law Officers and staff responsible for inspections and investigations.
• Leadership and Supervision: Directly supervise three By-Law Officers, provide leadership and work direction to other staff within the Legal & Legislative Services Department, and maintain positive working relationships with Employees, Management Team, Council, and Committees.

• A Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
• A Licensed Lawyer Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
• Full membership/certification in good standing in the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association (MLEOA) and/or the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers (CPSO) would be considered an asset.
• Strong computer proficiency, including a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Suites and electronic research systems.

The Town of Essex offers a competitive salary range of $112,600 - $136,940 per year, complemented by an excellent benefit package.
