Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Seaspan Full time

Seaspan Shipyards is proud to be Canada's long-term, strategic shipbuilding partner for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. As a direct result of this work, while creating jobs and rebuilding our domestic shipbuilding industry, Seaspan Shipyards is delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

Vancouver Shipyards, based in North Vancouver, has a very busy and exciting year ahead, as we continue to make progress on two 174m long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy – the largest ships ever built in Canada. We are also constructing an Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard, and have secured significant contracts to design and build a Polar Icebreaker and several Multi-Purpose Vessels. These projects will bring long-term job stability for many years to come.

Welders play a crucial role in the shipbuilding industry. Ships of this size and complexity require the deposition of large amounts of high-quality weld to ensure the structural integrity of the ship while at sea and to ensure the integrity of the many different systems required to make the ship operate at its maximum output. Welders utilize FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, and SAW processes as well as some automated GMAW/MCAW equipment to complete these high-quality welds.

We are seeking Red Seal Qualified Welders and/or Welders with multiple years of welding experience in heavy manufacturing and/or pressure welding. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of welding procedures, blueprints, and drawings. They will also be able to work positively in a team environment and demonstrate a passion for safety and environmental stewardship.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in manual burning using oxy/fuel cutting equipment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in air-arc gouging in all positions
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment FCAW test before being eligible for dispatch

  • Must be able to pass additional qualification tests required by the Company or the Classification Society governing the build of the ship or project
