Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mine Geologist to join our team at Island Gold Mine. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing inspections, job and task observations to ensure compliance to safety standards, training and mentoring of staff, and participating in short and long-term mine planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections and job observations to ensure compliance to safety standards
  • Train and mentor staff on geological and geostatistical concepts
  • Participate in short and long-term mine planning with Geology, Engineering, Exploration, and Operations teams
  • Provide stope reconciliations, dilution estimates, grade forecasting, and grade blending
  • Supervise the work of the Production Geology Department
  • Use Datamine, CAD, and other modeling and geostatistical software to complete regular geological and grade wireframes
  • Data entry and basic administrative tasks
  • Drill contract management and cost control
  • Recommendations on QAQC protocols
  • Ensure production forecasts are accurate, achievable, and in-line with company goals

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Geology
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a production setting of an underground mine
  • Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility, adaptability, analytical skills, and safety

Working Conditions:

  • 4x3 – Tuesday-Friday Schedule
  • Office and underground work environment
  • Island Gold offers company charter flights from Rouyn-Noranda, QC, Sudbury ON, Toronto, ON Monday to Friday

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to manipulate core boxes and sample bags which can weigh 40-50 pounds
  • Periodic travel underground
  • Has obtained the necessary certifications to work in an underground mine environment
