Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) instructor to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ASL classes to students in our International & Indigenous Languages Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive ASL program that meets the needs of our students and reflects current teaching practices in Ontario.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students in all learning settings, both physical and virtual.
  • Familiarize yourself with digital tools, such as Google Meet and Google Classroom, to effectively teach virtually.
  • Incorporate inclusive and equitable learning practices to promote student success.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing regular feedback to parents and guardians.
  • Supervise students in all learning settings, maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices.
Requirements
  • Fluency in ASL is essential for this role.
  • Teaching experience, preferably in ASL, is highly valued.
  • A related degree or diploma, with preference given to Ontario College of Teachers' certification or equivalent.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are deaf or hard of hearing.
