Job Description:
The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to teach Construction Site Management for our Civil Engineering program. This course covers the theory and practice of Construction Site Supervision and Management as applied in the construction industry. Students will examine construction practices, systematic project management, estimating, planning, scheduling concepts, production planning, managing time, resource management, scheduling applications, coordination, and cost system.
Utilizing project management software, students will practice and analyze various types of scheduling used in construction, including the Critical Path Method, Cash Flow Charts, and Corrective Action tools. Students will also learn and practice contract administration processes as used in the construction industry. The main objectives are to save time, cost, and maintain high quality at every phase of the construction project from start to finish.
Responsibilities:
- Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
- Use principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
- Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
- Evaluate and update course and program curriculum to ensure it remains current and relevant;
- Work independently and demonstrate initiative; and
- Collaborate effectively with students, the program team, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Salary: We offer a competitive salary of approximately $60,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
Requirements:
- A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Masters required);
- A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience;
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies;
- Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset;
- Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
- A proven track-record of life-long learning;
- Able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders;
- An understanding of the Ontario college system.
