Animal Care Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the BC SPCA Chilliwack Branch. As an on-call auxiliary Animal Care Attendant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain the physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare.
- Ensure kennels, runs, and cat cages are kept in a manner that promotes the health and well-being of the animals, adhering to ShelterSense protocols.
- Monitor the health and welfare of the animals, maintaining up-to-date kennel cards, recording information on whiteboards, and completing daily welfare sheets.
- Provide daily care and attention to the animals, including feeding, watering, exercise, and enrichment.
- Perform general bathing and grooming of animals, treating them with compassion and respect.
- Perform other duties as assigned, working collaboratively with the Animal Centre Manager and other team members.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Resourceful team player with the ability to build trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers.
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
- A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
- Previous kennel or animal care experience considered an asset.
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
- Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
- Previous animal control, welfare, or enforcement experience an asset.
- Position is physically demanding and requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties.
- Familiar with working in a union environment.
- Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
